We absolutely loved last week's 60's themed Sewing Bee.
You can catch up here if you missed it - Episode 4 Great British Sewing Bee
Why Sew Vintage Patterns?
There are so many fantastic vintage patterns available, if you know where to look! Fashion trends come and go through the decades and you can find brilliant design classics like the Mondrian dress featured in Episode 4.
The 1960s were the last decade before ready to wear clothing really took over the market causing a decline in the production of sewing patterns; this means an enormous wealth of fantastic vintage patterns are out there to find.
Look out for vintage sewing patterns at your local car boot or antique fairs, visit vintage emporiums and second hand shops, and don’t be afraid to search eBay for vintage pattern bargains.
Do you recognise this pattern - it's the jacket Rumana chose to sew in the GBSB 60's episode made-to-measure challenge. One of the reissue patterns from Simplicity, another great resource for finding vintage and retro patterns to sew up.
Whilst it’s tempting to sew only summer frocks (especially these fab 60's styles) now summer has made a brief appearance, working through a jacket now means it will be ready to wear when nights turn colder and before autumn makes its appearance.
There were some fabulous 60s jackets made on our TV screens recently, and the simple shape of those jackets are perfect for your first jacket project.
The styles are as contemporary and on trend now as they were in the 60s. Many vintage patterns pre-date the overlocker, so not having one is no excuse!
Why not stitch up one of Simplicity’s fantastic vintage reissue patterns or choose a retro-inspired modern design?
