Free Fathers Day Gift Ideas to Sew
It doesn’t have to be a tie! Take a look at the free and fun ‘sewing for men’ ideas we have found from some of our favourite sewing bloggers.
Ideas for Sewing Gifts for Men
Our Issue 13 Magazine featured a number of fantastic patterns for men – including sewing up this stunning shirt pattern from the Great British Sewing Bee!
There are just a few weeks left until Father’s Day, so we’ve found three great sewing patterns, suitable as gifts for men that are quick and easy to sew.
If sewing up mens shirts and garments seems a bit daunting, these beginner sewing patterns will be perfect for you to try.
Men’s Shaving Kit Pattern
Lindsay from the blog Cottage Mama has created what she calls a Dopp Kit – better known in the UK as a shaving kit – a great gift and you can be really creative with the choice of fabric. Lindsay has used a rather sophisticated pinstripe! See the full step by step free tutorial here – Mens Shaving Kit Sewing Pattern and Tutorial
Unisex Apron Pattern
The Purl Bee is one of our favourite blogs! We spotted this tutorial for sewing up a unisex apron – we all know real men love to cook! Your Dad will love his own apron even if just for BBQ’s – why not personalise it by embroidering on his initials or simply ‘DAD’. Find the mans apron pattern here
Sewing Tutorial for a Card Holder
Your dad (or your kids father) most likely already has a wallet but a card holder can be really useful – this tutorial is perfect – choose a great fabric (you’ll need so little you’re bound to have something in your stash or an old garment you can upcycle) and follow the simple step by step instructions from Mother and Daughter Bloggers Lisa and Sarah of A Spoonful of Sugar Designs here – make a diy card holder
Perhaps what you dad really needs is his own Manly Sewing Kit!
Make him a sewing kit – everybody regardless of gender should know how to sew on a button!
You can have a lot of fun putting a sewing kit together – like this ‘Oxford Sewing Kit for Men‘ (actually created as a branding excercise but it’s very appealing!) – an old cigar box (hunt one down on ebay), a little handmade pin cushion (so easy to make!), measuring tape, thread, pins and needles, seam ripper, scissors and a few emergency shirt buttons. We think this would make a great gift for a man.
