The Ruby Dress
With its superbly flattering fit and design, the Ruby is not just a stunning summer dress it’s also incredibly simple to make and it is freeon the cover of your copy of Love Sewing Issue 4!
“The Ruby is one of my favourite pattern designs, and is possibly the easiest to make and sew. It has a really wide, ultra-feminine circular skirt and, combined with the iconic Audrey Hepburn-style bateau neckline, it gives a definite nod to the vintage look while retaining a timeless, classic design that will never go out of style. This is a dress you could wear for many summers to come.
The beauty of this dress is that it is flattering to all types of figure. The waist will nip in a figure that runs straight down and the full skirt will create the illusion of curves to the hips and derriere! For those if us who prefer to hide hips and bottoms, the cut works equally as well by creating a flattering waist-to-hips ratio, essential for the vintage-style silhouette.
Ruby’s simplicity also means that it looks fabulous in any fabric – cotton, satin, crepe back satin or lawn. For this all-out retro-style version I used beautiful black and white floral stretch cotton from Fabric Godmother. It’s great to wash and iron, stays almost crease free and is a joy to sew with”
